Universiti Malaysia Sabah - UMS

Universiti Malaysia Sabah - UMS is the ninth Malaysian public university located in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia and was established on November 24 1994. The first campus of UMS was sited at the site of Sabah Foundation Community College (KKYS) on the grounds of Sabah Foundation itself with the first intake consisted of 205 undergraduates. Its residences located just beside the football field, on the compound of Yayasan Sabah. Initially, the university management office operated at the Malaysian Ministry of Education in Kuala Lumpur until 1995, and later it was shifted to Kota Kinabalu.

In August the same year, physical development began to take place in the north of Kota Kinabalu City. The first phase of its construction was only completed in 2000. UMS opened an International Campus in Labuan in 1999, and an Agriculture Campus at Sandakan in 2011. 20th Anniversary of Universiti Malaysia Sabah UMS Chancellory Building. Before June 2014, there were 13 schools and 9 research institutes in UMS. Starting 1 July 2014, the restructuring of 13 existing schools into 10 faculties has been done in line with the academic transformation in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). • Faculty of Engineering (FKJ) (formerly known as School of Engineering and Information Technology) Faculty of Science and Natural Resources (FSSA) (combination of School of Science and Technology & School of International Tropical Forestry)
• Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition (FSMP) (formerly known as School of Food Science and Nutrition)
• Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKSK) (formerly known as School of Medicine) Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture (FPL) (formerly known as School of Sustainable Agriculture)
• Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FKI) (formerly known as Labuan School of Science Informatics)

• Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage (FKSW) (combination of School of Social Sciences & School of Arts)
• Faculty of Business, Economics and Accountancy (FPEP) (formerly known as School of Business & Economics)
• Faculty of Psychology and Education (FPP) (combination of School of Psychology and Social Work & School of Education and Social Development)
• Faculty of International Finance Labuan (FKAL) (formerly known as Labuan School of International Business and Finance).

Borneo Marine Research Institute

• Borneo Marine Research Institute (BMRI) - established in 1995 with the aim of promoting education, research and training in conservation and sustainable development of marine resources, and a rational deployment of biotechnology.
• Biotechnology Research Institute - The Biotechnology Research Institute (BRI) was established in January 2002 to function as a Center of Excellence in the field of Biotechnology at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). The establishment of BRI is in tandem with the nation's efforts to promote research and development in biological or life sciences for the improvement of the quality of human life in relations to medicine, food, agricultural science and environmental protection.
• Biology Tropical & Conservation Institute - Tropical Biology and Conservation Research Institute (ITBC) was founded in 1996. With the coordinating assistance of the Institute, local and international scientists can better explore the diverse terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems of the tropics, especially Sabah.
