University Malaysia Pahang - UMP is a Malaysian government university, formerly known as Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan dan Teknologi Malaysia - KUKTEM. The university was named as the best in Asia last year, in term of highest percentage in academic publishing and cooperation in engineering field across the region.

UMP established in 2002 as a public technical university by the Malaysian government and was named Kolej Universiti Kejuruteran & Teknologi Malaysia - KUKTEM. It was set up as a technical university, specialising in engineering and technology. The university college operates on a temporary campus in Gambang, Pahang. The temporary campus was formerly an industrial complex owned by MEC. The university's permanent campus is located in Pekan, which is under construction.

In 2006, the government decided to rename KUKTEM to Universiti Malaysia Pahang - UMP. The change of the name, because of the words 'University College' (Kolej Universiti) tended to give the impression to the public that KUKTEM is sounds a 'lower standard' institution of higher education compared to other public universities such as Universiti Malaya, and other government universities. The university consists of 18 departments/units and 10 faculties where some are known as centers.
