Wawasan Open University - WOU which was established in 2006, is one of Malaysia’s foremost, private institutions of higher learning dedicated to adult learners who seek to pursue tertiary qualifications for professional development and self-enrichment. Located in Georgetown, Penang, the university was first established as Wawasan Open University College - WOUC in 2005 after , a year later it was upgraded from 'Wawasan Open University College' to 'Wawasan Open University - WOU' after the university status was granted by the Ministry of Education - MOE.
Besides being as a private university in Malaysia specialising in open distance learning, the University is now reaching out to school-leavers with its introduction of full-time degree programmes, WOU On Campus, in September 2013.
WOU uses flexible approaches to make higher education accessible to all – anytime, anywhere – and to create a lifelong learning community for aspiring individuals regardless of their previous educational, ethnic or socio-economic background. Through its unique open distance learning (ODL) model, self-paced learning and flexible study pathway, WOU enables working adults to pursue their educational dreams without much disruption to their professional and personal commitments. As a result, more than 12,000 working professionals in Malaysia have to date experienced the learning opportunities at WOU while they continue in their jobs.
